March Career Madness: A Fun Game to Help Your Teen Explore Their Future

Piece of paper with a career bracket on it.

Does your teen change their mind about their future every week? Or maybe they avoid the conversation altogether? If only career planning were as exciting as March Madness… Well, now it can be!

Every spring, March Madness sweeps the country. Brackets are filled out, upsets are predicted, and fans cheer as their favorite teams battle it out to become national champions.

But what if we used that same bracket excitement to help teens explore potential careers?

That’s exactly what the Career March Madness Bracket does—it’s a fun, low-pressure way for your teen to compare career options and narrow down the right fit for them.

Why It Works

Most teens have no idea what they want to do after high school. Some change their minds constantly, while others feel overwhelmed even thinking about it. That’s normal!

But here’s the thing—exploring careers early helps reduce stress, improve decision-making, and even save money by preventing costly major changes in college. The Career Bracket is engaging, bite-sized, and sparks great conversations between parents and teens.

How the Career Bracket Works:

  1. Start with eight careers (we’ve included a starter list, but your teen can swap them out!).
  2. Face-off-style decision-making: They’ll compare each pair based on interests, skills, lifestyle, or job outlook and choose a winner to proceed with.
  3. Narrow it down to the Final Four, then pick a “Career Champion.”
  4. Use the bonus reflection questions to dive deeper into career options and next steps.

By the end, your teen will have a better idea of what excites them, which careers align with their strengths, and where they want to explore further.
